Crabbing

Oregon Dungenous Crab

Depending on the time of year we may set out crab pots while fishing in the Pacific ocean. The reason for this should be obvious, we want to send you home with some delicious Dungenous Crab.

Dungenous Crab are the most popular of crab species found off the Oregon coast. They grow to a decent size, much larger than a Blue or Stone Crab and are found in most of the waters and estuaries on the Oregon Coast.

To catch them we use a crab pot which has some bait inside to attract the crab. We soak the pots for a few hours and then pull them to the surface. Many times the pot is completly filled with crab and then then chore is to seperate out the large male crab as all the others need to be released back into the ocean.
